ONC launches second Meaningful Use challenge
In an effort to promote the adoption and meaningful use of health information technology, the Department of Health and Human Services is starting a friendly competition between states and U.S. territories. As reported by ModernHealthcare.com, this is the second effort by ONC to offer incentives to promote MU at the state level.
ONC HIE workgroup offers interoperability suggestions
In order to better promote interoperability, the ONC Policy Committee’s Information Exchange Workgroup is suggesting the agency focus on payment policies, non-meaningful use eligible providers and state HIE policy and program variations.

Extensive use of health IT improves patient care at FQHCs
Patients who receive care at federally qualified health centers (FQHC) with robust information technology systems receive better preventative services, more comprehensive follow-up care, and improved access to specialists, according to a new study published by BioMed Central. Researchers from a number of US universities examined data from 776 hospitals involved in the National Survey of Federally Qualified Health Centers, and found that higher health information technology (HIT) capacity was linked to more patient reminders, timely appointments, and better exchange of information.
